Our granite is marked around the tap. Is it ruined?

Almost certainly not. Hard borehole water leaves deposits and, on unsealed granite, staining. Both usually come out: deposits with a proper stone cleaner, staining with a poultice rather than scrubbing. Then it needs sealing, which is what was missing.

Do office tea points need a different top?

Yes. A tea point is used hundreds of times a day rather than a few, and the edge takes constant knocks from mugs and trays. We specify a harder edge profile and, in most cases, quartz over granite because nobody in an office will ever reseal anything.
