Bathroom Vanity Tops in Nairobi: Small Pieces, Fine Tolerances

Small pieces are less forgiving, not more

Clients often assume a vanity top is a simple job because it is small. The opposite is true: on a 600mm top, a 4mm error is visible from the door. On a 3-metre kitchen run the same error disappears into a scribe.

So vanity tops are templated with the same care as a kitchen, and cut in the workshop rather than adjusted on site.

Basin arrangements

Undermount: basin fixed beneath the stone, so the top has a polished internal edge and there is no rim to trap dirt. The cleanest look and the most fabrication work. Needs the basin in hand before templating.

Countertop or vessel, basin sits on the surface. Only a tap hole is cut, so it is cheaper, and it suits a thicker or more decorative basin.

Inset, basin drops into a cutout with its rim on the stone. Simplest, and the rim junction needs sealing properly or it discolours.

We need the actual basin, or its exact model, before we template. A cutout made to a datasheet that turns out to be a different production version is a wasted top.

Material, for a bathroom specifically

This is where marble genuinely works, little acid exposure and the material at its best. Quartz is excellent and needs no sealing. Granite is fine and cheapest. Terrazzo cast in situ suits a long run with several basins and has no seams at all.

Upstands

A vanity meeting a wall wants an upstand, a low return of the same material, rather than relying on silicone alone. Silicone at that junction discolours and eventually lets water into the substrate, which is how a vanity carcass fails from the top down.

It is a small extra cost and it is the difference between a bathroom that still looks right in five years and one that does not.
