Will the seams be obvious in a small kitchen?

Less than you would think, if the stone is chosen for it. On a busy speckled granite a well-made seam is close to invisible. On a stone with strong directional veining it will show, so in a flat that needs sectioning we steer clients towards a forgiving pattern.

Can one slab do two flats?

Frequently, in the subdivided Parklands houses. Short runs use well under a slab each, and cutting two or three kitchens from one piece is both cheaper and gives a consistent look through a building. It needs the jobs planned together rather than sequentially.

What is different about plumbing in Parklands

Parklands flats on the numbered avenues have stairwells too tight for a full slab, so tops are cut into sections in the workshop before delivery.
Subdivided Parklands houses have several small kitchens, and one slab commonly serves two or three of them.
Highridge blocks have no lift, so a heavy stone top must be carried, which caps the size of any single piece regardless of the room.

Parklands is compact kitchens in buildings with no lift. Both facts push the work towards smaller pieces and cleverer cutting.

Sectioned in the workshop, not on the landing

Stairwells here are narrow with half-landings, and a full slab simply will not turn. So tops are cut into sections before they leave us, with the joints placed deliberately.

The alternative, cutting a finished piece on a landing because it will not go round the corner, produces a joint wherever the saw had to fall. We measure the stair before cutting for exactly this reason.

Choose stone that forgives a seam

Where sectioning is unavoidable, the pattern matters. A busy speckled granite hides a well-made seam almost completely; a stone with strong directional veining will show it however carefully the joint is made.

One slab, several kitchens

The subdivided houses here have multiple small kitchens, each using a fraction of a slab. Planned together, two or three can come off one piece, cheaper per kitchen and consistent through the building.

That requires the jobs to be planned at the same time rather than one after another, which is worth raising with a landlord doing a building in phases.
