Worktop Repair, Resealing and Polishing in Nairobi

Most damaged worktops do not need replacing

A chipped edge, a dull patch, an etched ring where a lemon sat, a stain that will not clean off, each of these looks permanent and most are not. Replacing a worktop over one of them is a very expensive way to solve a problem a morning’s work would fix.

What we repair

Chips, particularly at sink cutouts and edges, filled with colour-matched resin and polished back. On granite the repair effectively disappears; on plain quartz it can be very slightly visible depending on colour.

Etch marks on marble, polished out mechanically. The stone is not stained, it is dulled, so restoring the polish restores the surface.

Stains on unsealed granite, drawn out with a poultice rather than scrubbed. Scrubbing pushes oil deeper into the stone and makes it worse, which is why the internet advice to attack it with a brush is unhelpful.

Failed seam joints where the original filler has shrunk or discoloured, raked out and remade.

Resealing

Granite and marble need periodic sealing. In a working Kenyan kitchen, annually is about right. Quartz never needs it.

The test is simple and you can do it yourself: put a few drops of water on the surface and leave them for fifteen minutes. If the stone darkens where the water sat, the seal has gone.

What we cannot fix

A crack right through the slab, usually from a badly cut hob opening or a top that was carried flat instead of on edge. And severe etching over a very large area of polished marble, where the honest answer is refinishing the whole top to honed rather than chasing individual marks.
